Privacy policy
ParentNote · last updated 20 October 2026
The short version. ParentNote has no accounts and no login. Your family's records, photos, videos and files are kept on your iPhone and in your own iCloud. We can't see them. We use a few service providers to sell Premium, receive crash reports and see which creator links bring people to the app. None of them receive anything about your child. We don't sell data, show ads or track you across other apps.
Who we are
ParentNote is made by Better at Parenting (Hugo Torres, United Kingdom) ("we", "us"). If you have a question about privacy, email contact@betteratparenting.com. For the data described in "What we receive" below, we are the data controller under UK and EU data protection law.
Your family's records
Everything you add to ParentNote is stored on your iPhone. That includes children's profiles, care logs, memories, photos, videos, voice transcripts, files, health entries and notes. If iCloud is on, it is also stored in your own iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit, so it can sync to your other devices.
- This data is in your private iCloud database, which only you can read. We have no access to it and no copy of it.
- Apple stores and protects iCloud data under Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Voice entries are transcribed on your iPhone. Recordings of a voice entry aren't saved.
- Text in photos and scanned documents is recognised on your iPhone so you can search it.
- Supply suggestions are worked out on your iPhone from your own logs.
Sharing with a caregiver
If you invite someone to a child, for example a grandparent, Apple's iCloud sharing gives them access to that child's records. You choose whether they can only view or can also add and edit records. They keep access until you remove it in ParentNote; it doesn't end by itself. ParentNote can remind you, on your iPhone, when you planned to remove access. Reminders and Lock Screen alerts never show your child's name.
What we receive
ParentNote uses a small number of service providers. None of them receives a child's name, birthday, photo, care record, note, health entry or file. We don't ask for your name or email address in the app.
| What the service does | What it receives |
|---|---|
| Purchases: sells Premium through the App Store and restores it on your other devices | A random app user ID created on your device, your App Store purchase and subscription history, your store country, and technical details such as app version and device model. If you came from a creator link, it also receives the creator and campaign code and the install ID below. |
| Crash reports: tells us when the app crashes, so we can fix it | The crash details: where the app failed, device model, iOS version and app version. We turned off screenshots, screen layouts, activity trails and user identity. Your IP address may be used to deliver the report. |
| Install attribution: tells us which creator's link led to an install, so we can pay creators | A random install ID, the link you tapped, install and app-open times, device model, iOS version and IP address. We don't use the advertising identifier (IDFA) or the vendor identifier (IDFV), and we don't connect it to advertising networks. |
| Web hosting: delivers the current Supplies product list and Amazon link settings | A plain request for the settings, with no information about you or your family. Like any web server, it sees your IP address. |
These providers only process this data to provide their service to us, under contracts that protect it. Some are based in the United States, and transfers rely on safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. If you'd like the names of our current providers, email us.
Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running, selling and fixing the app. For purchases, it is also the contract between you and us.
Amazon links
The Supplies tab links to products on Amazon in your country's store. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. A link may carry our Associates tracking tag, but never anything about you or your child. Once you open Amazon, Amazon's own privacy notice applies.
Purchases
Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
Permissions
ParentNote asks for permission only when you use a feature that needs it:
- Camera: for photos, videos and scans you choose to take.
- Microphone and speech recognition: for voice entries, transcribed on your iPhone.
- Calendar: to add an appointment to the calendar you choose (write access only).
- Notifications and alarms: for reminders you set, such as when to remove a caregiver's access.
You can change any of these in the iPhone's Settings.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent personal data.
- We don't show ads, and we don't track you across other companies' apps and websites.
- We don't use your family's records to train AI or for any other purpose.
Children
ParentNote is for parents and caregivers, not for children to use. Information about a child is entered by a parent or caregiver and stays in that family's iCloud, as described above.
How long data is kept
Your family's records stay until you delete them. In ParentNote, go to Settings and choose "Delete all data" to remove them from your iPhone and your iCloud. You can also delete individual records, or remove ParentNote's data in your iPhone's iCloud settings. Each service provider keeps what it receives only as long as it needs to provide its service. Purchase records are kept as long as needed for your subscription and for legal and tax reasons.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct, delete or restrict it, or object to how we use it. Email contact@betteratparenting.com. We don't know who you are unless you tell us, so we may need details from your device to find your data, such as the date of a purchase. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK, or to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app.
